Community Counts is a unique tool to measure quality of life in 12 counties of Central Alabama, and to encourage and equip individuals and organizations to make our community a better place for all of us.
Because we believe that "what we can measure, we can make better," Community Counts includes more than 85 reliable, repeatable indicators. Indicators were chosen to measure aspects of the quality of life goals set by more than 5,000 people during the Region 2020 visioning process in 1997.
Community Counts includes facts and figures that:
provide a snapshot of social, economic
and environmental conditions in the region.
were compiled by qualified organizations committed to our community.
are available to individuals and organizations who want to tackle specific
problems.
are designed to help our community move forward toward goals set by
its residents.
With the creation of Community Counts, our region joins
a select group of U.S. communities who have developed such a tool. Like
them, we will be able to:
Measure progress of current efforts;
Engage people who want to make a difference;
Celebrate success stories;
Focus public and private resources (volunteers and funding);
Obtain additional financial support, including national grantmakers;
Improve our understanding of community problems and resources;
Encourage positive community change;
Create new partnerships working together on a chosen goal;
Recognize relationships among indicators and take advantage of the
interactions;
Add to and enhance existing indicators for a more complete picture.
